Get Ready to Train Your Assistants

1) Setting up your Training Session

  • Be sure your participants are comfortable and ready to learn.
  • Be sure to have a training manual for each Assistant and any demonstration items of safety equipment with you.

2) Have a translator available, if needed

  •  Present the training in a language that the trainees can understand.

3) Use the training materials you received at your Assistant Instructor Course

  • Student Workbooks (available in English, French, Spanish or Low German)
  • Instructor Manual
  • Presentation Poster Flipchart (optional)
  • Demonstration items of protective clothing and personal protective equipment (disposable coveralls, chemical resistant gloves, goggles, apron)
  • Any of your own items from your farm that will help you teach your assistants

4) Send your training form and fee to us

  • Complete and sign a "Record of Pesticide Safety Training" form for each Assistant
  • Make sure that the Assistant also signs this form
  • Pay the fee of $25 (no HST) per person, payable to the University of Guelph
  • Send the form and payment to us by mail if paying by cheque or by e-mail or fax if you are paying with a credit card.  Phone us with your credit card details.

  • Once OPEP receives the documents and fees, OPEP will issue a Training Card for each Assistant.

5) Did you hire the services of another Assistant Instructor to deliver the training for you?

  • If this is true, a Certified Farmer from your operation must also be present during the training session. The Certified Farmer from your operation must also sign the Record of Pesticide Safety Training form.

6) Need the wallet cards returned quickly?

  • Fax your documents to us at 519-674-1589 and then call 1-800-652-8573 to pay with a VISA or MasterCard. However please also send the original documents by mail, so that OPEP will have the original signed documents on file.
